This pack, while fairly light duty seems to do the job just fine. No problems so far. I have been using it for daily dog walking loaded with 15#s of weight to get a bit of extra exercise. Probably about 30 uses thus far. The waste belt is the main reason I bought it - to transfer some the weight off of my back and to my hips. To make that happen you have to wear it relatively low - ie, shoulder straps mostly extended out. The chest strap is a nice feature too. Regarding the "frame" it really does help distribute the weight to your shoulders and hips. The frame is actually a steel (I assume) rod about 1/8" thick that is bent in kind of a bowed 'X'. Think of the pink breast cancer ribbon - an 'X' with a loop at the top. see pic. In addition, the see through mesh fabric that sits against your back creates second bow in the frame assembly that holds the load off your back for very good ventilation. Inside there is an elastic topped pocket and Velcro strap hanger up top to facilitate the use of a water bladder with a tube hole near your left shoulder. There is a zipper pocket in the top that might hold around 1 quart and includes a keys hook to keep those in a safe location. Only negatives are that the shoulder straps and waste belt are thinly padded and I would prefer 2 water bottle pockets rather than just 1 for a balanced load. To be clear I did not find the shoulder straps and waste belt uncomfortable. Again though, for the money and included features I think it's a really good value. BTW - I own a handful of backpacks all the way from about 15L up to 65L so I've developed my preferences. I'm looking forward to using this one for some day hikes during some National Parks travel this summer.
